How Portable GPS Navigation Systems Work.
Global Positioning System (or GPS) is a global communication system that uses radio-navigation to communicate between orbiting satellites and bases on the surface of the earth. The satellites serve as a reference point between the ground stations and triangulate information to/from any part of the globe. This is how portable GPS navigation systems are able to act as real-time maps for motorists, bikers, hikers, and even marine transportation. Another navigation system that is similar to GPS is cellular triangulation. The cost difference between these two methods is uncertain, however, the most common method currently used for navigation purposes is GPS.
